The catastrophic July 4 floods in Kerr County and surrounding areas have taken the lives of dozens of adults and children. Here’s an updated resource guide with information on how to find help for yourself and how to help your neighbors.
GETTING HELP
The Red Cross Providing support services and emergency assistance. People may be eligible for temporary housing, emergency financial assistance, health and medical services, relocations services and reunification requests. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcross.org.
Austin Disaster Relief Network Provides damage cleanup. Call 512-806-0800 or 2-1-1, or visit adrn.org.
Texas Department of Insurance Providing help with insurance claims with a helpline Monday - Friday or online resources. Call 1-800-252-3439 to get help with claims or insurance related questions.
United Way for Greater Austin Call 2-1-1 or visit 211Texas.org to get connected to more than 30,000 local resources and a specialist who can connect you to food, clothing, shelter, medical assistance, and other resources.
H-E-B Pop-Ups Flood victims can stop by three different locations across Central Texas to pick up recovery kits that include water, snacks, first aid kits, cleaning supplies, gift cards and meals. The three sites are: Burnet Train Depot Parking Lot. 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. | July 8 - until further notice Round Mountain Baptist Church. 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. | July 8 - until further notice Liberty Hill Middle School. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. | July 8 - until further notice
MENTAL HEALTH
Disaster Distress Helpline This multilingual, 24/7 service is open to anyone experiencing emotional distress related to natural disasters. Call or text the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 to speak with a trained mental health professional.
NAMI Central Texas Providing free mental health resources, including peer-led support groups, education programs, and connections to local mental health care providers. Visit namicentraltx.org for more information.
Austin ISD Proving emotional and mental support to students and families impacted by the floods. Families can fill out this form to request counseling, or they can check this list of resources to support children during a crisis. Parents can also reach out to their children' s principals for more information.
Crisis Textline Get connected to a live volunteer crisis counselor for free, 24/7 help. Text ‘SHARE’ to 741741 or connect online at crisistextline.org
Integral Health ATX Integral Health has a mobile clinic in Leander offering crisis services, telehealth access, and in-person outreach. A 24/7 Helpline is available at 512-472-HELP (4357).
GIVING HELP
GoFundMe Has a section dedicated to verified accounts raising money for flood victims. Visit gofundme.com, scroll down to “Texas Flood Relief” and donate to fundraisers.
Salvation Army Asking for financial donations to continue their work on the ground in impacted communities. To make a donation, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or go to helpsalvationarmy.com.
World Health Kitchen Feeding families, first responders and some of the hardest hit communities with meals Donations can be made online here.
Kerr County Flood Relief Fund The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country is gathering donations for flood relief efforts. All donations will go to vetted organizations. You can visit their website to find out more.
TEXSAR A nonprofit first responder group helping with disaster response seeks donations to keep providing assistance Donate online at texsar.org.
Southern Oaks Church Offering personal supplies to those impacted by the floods + accepting monetary donations in the forms of donations or gift cards Stop by Southerns Oaks Church: July 7th - 9th from 1pm to 5pm Donate online at southernoakschurch.com
UFCU - Austin United Federal Credit Union is accepting flood relief supplies at all Austin branches. Most-needed items include: non-perishable food and water, hygiene items, first-aid supplies, baby essentials, pet food, clean clothing and bedding, flashlights/batteries and cleaning supplies.
Austin Pets Alive! APA is looking for donations, supplies, and volunteers. The biggest in-kind needs at this time are flea and tick medication, any necessary vaccines, plastic airline crates (26”-36”), and potty pads. These can be dropped off at our Cesar Chavez location anytime between 12-6pm. Other urgent needs include monetary donations, supplies and volunteers to drive,foster and transport animals.
Central Texas Food Bank The Central Texas Food Bank is mobilizing and coordinating emergency food distributions. They're also preparing for long-term assistance as communities get back on their feet. Visit their website to make a donation.
