In 2023, Decibel started a new reporting project in the Dove Springs community, focusing on issues around housing and affordability. It was a tactical shift for us–in the past, Decibel had not narrowed its focus to a specific issue. But even that factoid comes with a caveat. When this project first started in 2016, we covered a specific topic each month. In a true sign of the times, most of our content lived on Facebook.
But things change, and our approaches have changed with them in order to create better content that is focused on stories and people often not heard. We moved to a community journalism model beginning in 2020. We created more vertical videos. We posted videos in other places besides Facebook.
Right now we’re starting to map out which community we’ll go to next, and we’re finishing up some final projects on the Dove Springs community. It’s a great opportunity to reevaluate our approach. But just like all our reporting starts and ends with community input, so too does our future plans. We want to create the kinds of reporting that you want to see about your community. And this is your opportunity to share your thoughts!
By filling out this Decibel Content Feedback Form, you can tell us more about the places you get your media and what kinds of content you like to see. Visitors can also tell us specifically what kind of content from Decibel they like, and what they want to see more of. Enjoy our short vertical videos? Want more documentaries? More articles? Let us know!
Your feedback helps us craft the best stories we can about Austin!
